I had a major death wobble today, that I was *actually* concerned about. It lasted no longer than 3-5 seconds at about 35 mph, but was so violent that I almost pulled over and called a tow truck less than 6 blocks from my house.

At first I thought I simply had a flat tire, but they were fine, then I thought maybe brakes because I was braking when the death rattle/wobble occurred. After driving a little while longer I am sure my brakes are fine. The steering is loose, but almost always has been.

If anyone else has had any issues similar to this, I'd be very interested to know what caused the issue, how it was diagnosed, and the steps taken to correct it.

the problem could be anything up front, but is likely a combination of slightly worn parts.  I would start with having a friend saw the wheel back and forth rapidly while I looked and felt for slop in the steering and trackbar joints.  Then I would jack up one front tire and shake it as hard as I could with my hands at 9 and 3 oclock, then with my hands at 12 and 6 oclock.  it should feel nice and tight and not all wobbly.  Also tire balance seems to be related to random DW episodes too.  less so if it starts with a pothole or other bump.
