Tankedy Tank Tank
Thanks to some generous help and friendly feedback from here and some of you in the Classifieds my 2 year project is nearing completion. This poor 1986 short bed was found in Georgia as a mud truck with no interior and some questionable powertrain issues at 230K miles on the body. I will add details and images as I can. We were just out in Silver Lake MI last week :)
Jeep Driver
There never was a '86 short bed. All '86s are long beds. May want to check your title. Or run an accurate VIN decode.
Tankedy Tank Tank
That's a good question. Here's the original Ad from the previous owner: http://topclassiccarsforsale.com/jeep/357931-1986-jeep-comanche-custom-4x4-40l.html VinWiki doesn't have much to say other than "1986 Jeep Comanche 4WD 6 Cylinders W 2.8L 2BL OHV" The plot thickens :)

Also, '86 only came with the 2.5 or 2.8 engine, 4.0 did not come until '87.
Tankedy Tank Tank
The 4.0 is correct. The previous owner had already installed a 4.0 from a wrangler when he had listed it so it is on it's third engine now since I installed mine. Tankedy Tank Tank
In fact when I bought it there was a non-functioning third pedal that just flapped around.
Tankedy Tank Tank
Now that it's been 3 years with some additional upgrades here is a side-by-side shot of the original ad vs what it is today.
