Picked up some spark plugs today, I figured after running so rich for so long they old ones were toast. Here’s the old one lined up from front to back, all pretty consistently cruddy but #3 looks worse then the others. They were all gaped pretty close to the recommended .035 which was surprising.

I noticed better response after swapping these out, went with the classic Champion copper plugs. Cheap improvements are always nice, time for a beer :beerbang:

So the MJ has been sitting in the driveway for a little over a month... 


Last time it snowed I went out for a joy ride.

All was well until I was on my way home. Clutch pedal started to feel spongy but would still engage until I pulled in my driveway. Went to back out to readjust my parking and lost my clutch pedal completely, look underneath and were the slave meets the bell housing was dripping brake fluid :sad2:

I'm no mechanic but I assume the bell housing shouldn’t be soaked it brake fluid. I was thinking the clutch would look about the same but to my surprise it was dry as it should but it appears to be on its last leg so that’s getting replaced while I have all this torn apart.

I have no idea how the starter still works but it will get shined up as well.

Once I put the new one in I’m thinking about rebuilding the old one just for fun lol but I bet your right. It couldn’t have given up the ghost at a better time, so I lucked out.

That was my thought, it couldn’t hurt.
 

Yeah I’ve been dreading it myself and I’ve read it’s pretty much impossible to do without pulling that trans so I guess the slave going out is a blessing in disguise. By single piece do you mean it’s separate from the oil pan gasket? From what I’ve seen/read that was my impression, I’m sure that’s gonna make it even more of a pain.

I’ll have to do some research then so I  know what I’m getting into. Any idea if Felpro makes one of their blue gaskets for the oil pan? I couldn’t find it if they do or I don’t know what other vehicles would interchange, thinking the Dakota valve cover gasket.

I’ll get ya a part number. Chrysler superseded the old cork to a single piece sometime later on. I am sure they do though, I would probably say they do for some later year 2.5L. I’ll shoot ya a PM with pics from the rebuild book on that seal.

So alittle over a year and a half ago after swapping my dummy cluster for a full cluster I was removing the oil pressure sensor and snap, the brass fitting snapped off inside the block. I tried a few different methods to remove it but wasn’t getting anywhere. Bright idea, use a pipe nipple extractor. Well due to my impatience and inexperience the result was the picture above. Cursing myself I still had to come up with a solution, so I relocated the sensor to another spot in the block and tried my best to stop the flow of oil spewing out the block. No amount of JB weld or Marine Tex could keep the oil inside the engine where it belongs, once again probably from impatience leading to poor prep. Regardless I thought that’s not the proper way to fix this so in search of an engine I went. Found a pretty sweet deal for an engine in Virginia, problem was miles and condition were unknown so what other logical choice did I have then to get the engine rebuilt… After killing my confidence breaking off part of my old block there was no way I was gonna attempt this myself…IMG_4599.jpeg.390b602754d803e533e52138886c087d.jpeg

Fast forward a few months and I now have a freshly rebuilt engine in the truck and am finally able to enjoy driving her around town. I learned a valuable and expensive lesson in patience. This is a 39 year old truck and parts are fragile so take your time(saying this to myself). Anyway I’m just happy to be back.
