TheDude
It's been a while since I had to ask a question on here but I'm definitely out of my element with my newest Comanche (#5). She's an 86' 2.8 Auto 4WD that I just bought off the original owner. This is the first 2.8 Jeep I've owned and when I know a bit about carbs, I'm more experienced with the Pre-Emissions carbs that don't have 50 lines hooked to them.. So to start I need to either rebuild the carb or replace it to run right and I would like to remove as much unnecessary emissions related parts I can to simplify everything. Should I just rebuild it or upgrade? Someone near me has an Edelbrock intake and upper “Torker”?? Are these worthwhile? All thoughts and options wanted! Thanks in advance! Green Mesa XJ
IMHO Replace that factory carb with the Weber dgs 38(I think this is number) there are kits all over the internet for upgrading s10 and 2.8 jeeps. That’s keeping the rest factory while changing the carb. I rebuilt the factory carb, it gutless and over complicated as is most of the 2.8 vacuum routing and vacuum switches. The intake manifolds are good, it’s in two pieces, bottom intake, and upper which has two different options one with the egr plate present but not drilled will work with the Weber, there’s a second choice for a four barrel option, yes a there’s a huge Holley carb right at the limit of what fuel the 2.8 can effectively use. It looks Ridiculously big on that engine but many have reported good results with it. Of course they probably also dropped a 3.4 out of a 95 camaro in too.If you’re looking at the intake upgrade keep a eye on eBay because the sets pop up several times a year. TheDude
So if I get the upgrade Edelbrock intake, upper and lower, do you happen to know what Holly fits it?Just because I can get them cheapish, I'd rather go that route if possible.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pete M
I'm pretty sure my lawnmower has a better carb than the stock one on a 2.8L

dasbulliwagen
I have a 3.4 swap to do in my 86 project truck, and Ive been wondering about keeping the original fuel injection or just going with the edelbrock manifold with either a carb or a FiTech type system. Everything Ive read about the factory 3.4 intake says its very restrictive. Not to mention the heads which are holdovers from the early 2.8. I don't like messing with carbs and Id lean toward a 2bbl FiTech setup myself for your setup if you can afford it.
