Pete M
I'm not sure if this info is actually useful because I'd still never use either axle, but someone on facebook has put forth that he has witnessed 98 ZJ shafts put into a 00 WJ axle. this still sounds far fetched (the axles are different widths), but I'm curious enough to maybe try swapping them at the junkyard to se what happens. maybe there is just less spline engagement? If true, you could then use a WJ axle and get the ZJ shafts with the 5 on 4.5 pattern.
Eagle
Who cares? They're both aluminum-cased, faux Dana 44s.
Pete M
I know. and it frustrates me that in a world filled with 8.8s and 8.25s, people still go ahead and suggest the 44a or even 35 to other Jeepers. but I can't prove the guy wrong 'til I have proof. I don't know what you all think is so wrong with an aluminum housing......it's lighter duh! And a 44 is so much stronger. Being said with complete sarcasm......... It doesn't apply, as much, to MJs as it is much easier to place the brackets correctly. However, the Super 35 upgrade easily handles up to 35 inch tires for those who can't locate a different axle. As all of the coil spring components can be a trick to place correctly, it is something that I am considering in my TJ.
Pete M
yeah, TJs have a whole new headache to get the link stuff in. pretty sure there are trusses out there that can adapt the 8.8 to TJs, meaning a lot less guesswork.
