Is a 96 xj and a 92 mj a direct motor swap?

I bought my 92 mj with a blown motor previous owner ran it dry of oil. I got a 96 xj on trade and was wondering if the engine would be a direct swap. Are all the sensors and everything the same?

I know for sure that the block will work for you     96 is the first year of OBD2 so I'm not sure on the sensors.

Hmm alright I’ll have to play it by year thanks I’m still waiting on getting this 96 Jeep I’ll let you know when I get it

OBD2 is more useful if you're up to a complete wiring swap.  and being a 96 you can keep your dash and such.

The head and block should be the same as 92, the head is a different casting however the 96 production should still have the hole tapped for the temperature sensor on the head, later years have the spot for it untapped.

I think you’d have to swap most of your sensors . Other than that there Should only be minor issues like oil filter fitting being different and one or two minor things.
