A backer really helps. I got mine at Harbor Freight, but i don't think they carry them any more. Amazon has them for about $40, I think I paid just under $10.

Thanks for that.  I got one from Amazon for around $35 a few months ago, and it does make a big difference.  That might have been the turning point.
