hakukamana
I am having problems trying to find a grey interior color code for a 89' eliminator. No radiator tag, only the drivers side cowl tag. I tried TCP Global but no having any luck with gray. I usually buy PPG DCI interior paint for the plastic interior parts, also had good luck with the dash. Just can't find the gray code. Any help would be appreciated.
krustyballer16
Do you need grey parts?Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
hakukamana
No I have all the parts, I am just trying to refresh the existing parts I have. I did this on a 93' YJ Sahara and was able to paint the interior a dark green to match the door panels. The body is Hunter Green Poly Metallic, so it all ties together. Never saw a YJ with a green interior color so I thought it was pretty unique. The MJ has the Grey Interior, Jeep Gray, or you get Jeep Tan, that's usually the choice. I just can't find an interior paint code.

Jeep Driver
Example- http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/jeep/1988/all-models/ Link lists colors for 1988 Jeep, my color, Coffee, is not listed. Wonderful world of books, it is a wonderful world, those books. However, unless the book lists the code, chip, formula, books bring you to a very unique place, it's referred to as SOL. Here are color listings for 1989, no interior colors, no int formulas- http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/jeep/1989/all-models/ So, unless you can find a shop with the color, chip, formula..........................SOL. Maybe you'll find it, maybe you won't. Or, you can do what I did.

HOrnbrod
I got my interior touch-up paint from Mopar using the body tag paint code. Easy-peasy.

Guess you didn't get the point. He's on an island. '89 is a transition year. AFAIK, Chrysler/Direct Connection/Mopar ended support of AMC badged Jeeps about 15 years ago. '89 color scheme will be a holdover from AMC. Find it for him, easy peasy.
HOrnbrod
Easy peasy. Even on the remote island of Hawaii.
hakukamana
HOrnbrod, The body code plate is the plate on the drivers side cowl next to the fender? I have those codes and they don't make sense here's how they read on my tag. APA (monotone paint scheme, not a two tone) PE4 (Should be Colorado Red) QE4 (should be Colorado Red) Q7SA ( Should be some Gray Color) ERB (the 4.0L) PE4 & QE4 should be Colorado Red, thats what the truck was originally. Q7SA should be the interior trim code, no luck with that code.
hakukamana
Q7SA = Bucket, Luggage Cloth Charcoal but still no interior paint code???? OK Q7 must be the Cloth Bucket trim code, the SA would be the interior paint color= Charcoal. why would they make it so difficult? HOrnbrod
I got this paint more than ten years ago from a now defunct local Jeep dealership. The parts guy came out to my truck, looked at the body tag on the firewall, and gave me the spray can I posted. It matched my gray interior pieces well. I'd try your local dealership parts department.
hakukamana
Auto/Truck/Fleet Paint Cross Reference at PaintRef.com, I just used this site and I must say the detail and the information is solid. It takes a little getting used to regarding the year, and make, but they do have paint codes, color chip sheets, and a variety of paint manufacturers codes. Including the factory paint codes. Jeep Driver
https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_chrysler_1989 Scroll half way down, only charcoal associated with Jeep is Chrysler Dark Charcoal. HS8 Sounds to me like you are reading an AMC plate as though it were a Chrysler plate, hence your confusion of codes. It would be an absolute fluke if your dealer actually has a rattle can, and if he did, do you want a 20 year old rattle can? During the early Obummer years, thousands of dealerships closed, some were taken over, most moved their old stock to aftermarket retailers such as Vintage Parts. Want to get laughed at? go to a dealer today and ask for that touch up rattle can for an 80s anything. -hell, for a 90s anything- It has become disingenuous to tell people here to go the the dealer anymore for much of anything. Let us know what you do. Curious.

hakukamana
Ok guys thanks for the input. Its just a paint code, I have been doing this for over three decades and know a little about the Jeep history, but I am still learning on a daily basis. Company's, Models, Years, they all make a difference when it comes to parts, build sheets, codes, and the like. I try to be accurate when I work on things to bring them back to factory spec's, sometimes it works other times you just have to deal with the current status of things. I let you know what happens either way. Thanks for the help.
