1988 Pioneer I bought my brother a jeep?

Recommended Posts

Figured id make a little thread about the lastest addition to my little Jeep collection.

My names Devin, I work for Peterbilt in the New England Area as a mechanic.

I come from Wranglers, I drove a YJ though highscchool, and now swaping super duty tons onto that. The Fiancee drives an LJ, stockish, no lift some fenders, a trussed 8.8 for a rear end, and a soon to be trussed HPD30.

My kid brother is getting his licence pretty soon and a good friend of mine was selling an MJ, he owns a jeep scrap yard, one of your members StricklyXJs I think is his name on here works there. I took a peek at it, decided it was worth the money for the shape it was in and brought it home.

Will update this as it goes along, but for now here are some pics, MJ, YJ, and LJ c3bcb04adb7fb4faccaaf6d0e1fc1b85.jpg2fc2d96b676919269a3acf09930a99fc.jpgb4154da2f7b72b9f66473a87841da948.jpg5d161edebcd587c560f9bb8c78f0fa82.jpg2900c044e798f8bcafae61daf83583f4.jpgf695391a38a5c3598aef18009a2f0856.jpg6e7870d9186f53ed1b204b55491e07ec.jpgf6ec1cbcdbbe974c57badd311c921226.jpg

Started off with some much needed preventitive maintence! First in the cooling system!

Swapped the closed cooling system out for an open, new water pump, thermostat and housing.

New plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

Valve cover gasket was leaking, that was replaced. 85cdbb86ac845784e4cdc67b7474cb15.jpg8437b350b8f9ba56a57278d5f85d8b5c.jpgd111ddc894245388b82459ab4107d407.jpg0dbed13343108bf6d915d1575a667a71.jpg6381c2b8f46099d2578f3fe7ddcd7c27.jpg

On to axles, going to be picking up a HP non-CAD d30 this weekend.

Have a 8.25 from an XJ cut all the brackets off, going to welding new purches to make it spring under. So i can ditch the d35. 9f93c30dea37032bf56cea5ebf7f4cda.jpg

Welded the tubes, set pinion angle, tacked purches on SUA. Once i have it under the jeep and am happy with the angle ill burn them in.

Picking up a d30 tomorrow afternoon. Ill get that here then go through it New steering, ball joints, hubs, etc.

In other jeep news, the fiancees LJ passed Mass state inspection yesterday. don't know how many of you guys are in mass, but they just added 4 or 5 cameras in every inspection bay that the DMV can watch. Getting your lifted jeep passed is becomeing harder and harder. 62f7af0a185a6d08f5fd3c26ae4fb26e.jpgbd6ac8062883dbc91726f6d4d099fcf4.jpg986e28990c516aa5a3ee2594bba1288e.jpge3adfbb74f5c81e3c317b3024d8c3f32.jpg

i used s10 lowering shackles from pepboys they gave about 1 inch lift.
Gona try to hit the garage tomorrow and test fit them and the 8.25 before i burn the purches in. So well see how it goes.

just be careful about running shackles that are shorter than stock as it is possible for them to invert (meaning move forward instead of backward) after full droop (usually after the truck is on a lift).  :(

Ill make sure to pay attention to that, i do the familys work and i'm not lucky enough to have a post lift yet.

But from my leaf YJ days i am fimilar with shackles inverting. Do not want to deal with that again.

Got a decent section of frame and have it up there, started to weld it but ran out of wire. Whole section will be covered with unibody stiffeners if i ever get around to ordering them, so I'm not reallt too worried about the structure. e8b0b7f0e35a5c859c2547e1d501c1e6.jpg
