Two questions

1. Does anyone know how much an NP242 transfer case weighs?

 

 

2. Does anyone have any idea what an automotive machine shop would charge to press the wrist pins out of four old pistons (2.5L) and to press new pistons onto the connecting rods?

I guess I'll be using a jack to pull the transfer case, then. They wired my chest back together after the open heart surgery, but I don't think I'm willing to risk trying to bench press close to 90 pounds under a vehicle. If I slip and drop it the result might not be pretty.

It's closer to 70lbs, that thread is whack.  A NP231 is only 65lbs.  I could put a 242 on a scale if you really care, but IMHO you're probably pushing your luck even at that weight.  Know any young guys that can do the grunt work?  It's way less of a pain to do them by hand than with a jack...

As to the connecting rods

 

I paid for the Rod reconditioning service, pressing the piston on the rod was a part of the service

Reconditioning includes cleaning bringing both bores back into spec checking and or replacing Rod bolts

If I remember correctly I paid $80 total it was about $20 per rod

 

 

As to the T case, even though I'm in my fifties I'm very capable, the days of laying in a pool of ATF and lumping transmissions on my chest are forever over, screw it, I use a jack.

Yeah, like +or- ~10lbs really makes a difference.    Either way, you shouldn't be trying to it yourself w/o a jack.
