Crazy worn brake pads!

Recommended Posts

These front pads are under 6 months old. I live in the mountains and that kind of driving eats pads up, but what!!!???

I heard my brakes scraping yesterday, checked them today and was very surprised at the wear. Clearly, something ain't right with my ride!

Any thoughts or solutions, etc.?

Cheap pads will do that.  It's amazing how soft they are and how fast they will wear.

Assuming the pistons aren't sticking and the caliper guides aren't worn, like Eagle says.  Another rare issue is the pushrod in the booster being wrong, resulting in the brakes dragging all the time.  Or you could have something stopping the pedal from fully returning.

I use autozone ceramic max pads in the red box with the duralast gold rotors. My wife got 60k out of the rotors on her XJ  and there was still half the pad left.

They stop with authority!

They replaced the pads and rotors under warranty because of the wear on the rotors. She was traveling 30k a year on it so it was within the 3 year warranty period.

I swapped those same pads in with NOS rotors I had on my MJ about five years ago - first time I had tried ceramic pads. They have yet to show any wear that I can see. They brake well, are quiet and make zero dust. I'm a believer..

Piston hanging up in the caliper?

Worn caliper guides?

I think its all original hardware. Looks like I need to rebuild or something.

Was going to go with ceramic, but none to found locally. After I fix the wear issue, I'll likely order some.
