Omarmartinez33
I’m tired of spending money on this leaky 2.5 I got I fix one thing other leak occurs. Also the transmission leaks like crazy. I won’t give on this project so I need advice on which swap is better. I’ve seen some cheap engines in low mileage parts with transmissions as well. Should I stay with the MJ engines or go elsewhere? Pete M
that is an odd reason to do an engine swap. how would you know that the replacement won't have some other even worse problem? where is the trans leaking from?

From the bottom half of it but just tired of it lol. Pete M
you want to try and adapt a 2.8 v6 into your truck? wait, lemme rephrase that: you don't want to try and swap a 2.8 into your truck. any inline 4 2.5L block from any year XJ/MJ/TJ/YJ will work for you. no need to get drastic with the ancient engines when a late 90s will do fine. Ok I shouldn’t go to a v6 with those models though?
DirtyComanche
That V6 is basically a downgrade from the 2.5l. The bigger GM V6 engines certainly have merit, but it is not as simple of a swap. Even with the added work of swapping a 4.0l in the 86 chassis, I think it's a good option to consider.

What added work needs to be on the chassis?

The firewall needs to be modded, and the whole radiator support and front crossmember swapped over. And probably other things. If you search I think there's some writeups on doing it. mjeff87
Where are you located? If you're anywhere reasonably close to southwest PA, I've got a complete '87 2.5L sitting in a barn up there. You can have it for free if you can get it. Jeff
