TheKelly's
Ok so the thermostat for the AC in part#55035503 however it's broken and no longer available. I have a part#55035641 and they appear to be the same except for the add on part, the wiring seems to be the same. Does anyone know if this can be installed as is or if you can simple cut out the add on part?
Marine1Texas
I would say yes needs to be cut. however I am not going to say that. you need to find out if the resistance is the same, or if the 1st box not like the old one Test the resistance on the plug side if they are the same then you just plug it up. I bet the 2nd box is got a extra resistor in it.
96 XJ
I have this same issue in 2023. Out of curiosity, did this work out? I have a 4.0 and the only part that I can find is 55035641. Are there any alternatives / universal Fin Sensors? My mechanic is trying his best to bypass, but I'm nervous about too many temp band aids on my XJ. Thank You for any info 1996 Jeep (XJ- 4.0) I6
ghetdjc320
It’s a binary switch so the only question is whether or not the temperatures are rated the same but it shouldn’t be far off. It can be bypassed and probably won’t cause any problems. Just make sure to keep the pressure switch that goes on the dryer.
96 XJ
Thanks ghetdjc320, I recently had an amateur experience when testing the system by jumping the A/C clutch relay at the PDC, similar to the Jeep-Eagle tech training videos that are online. In my case, within 10 seconds of jumping the AC clutch relay the compressor made a high pitch noise and began to clunk (like a rock was going around in the compressor) and then something began hissing. I shut down the truck and took it to the mechanic. This week the mechanic has replaced the compressor, lines, drier, expansion valve, and condenser. The only thing left is the actual box under the passenger side with the evaporator, heater core and that silly fin sensor 55035503. My issue began on a road trip when I decided to get a new radiator, water pump, aux fan and fan clutch installed but after the cooling system upgrades, my AC only stayed on for about 45 minutes then it shuts down. I could not go back to the shop because I was on a roadtrip. Many AC related parts have been change out using Mopar parts as much as possible and the AC still only works for about 45 min. then the cold air blowing from the vents becomes normal/room temp air. My new mechanic can't find the 55035503 sensor so he bypassed something, but he mentioned that the truck was dead the next morning after bypassing. unsure what was bypassed. - I would like to keep my jeep as original as possible, but I'm open to a good bypass solution. In all my years owning this jeep, the AC has never given me any headaches, and the system always stayed cold. I also would regularly drive with the heater on low to keep the fluid moving around the heater core. side note: My usual mechanic for 10 years left Brooklyn, NY recently and I'm trying to find a good Jeep mechanic. The pic below is from online and is only an example of what i jumped. My jeep has all of the fuses in the right places.
eaglescout526
Has any of you HO guys thought about using the Renix era ones? I know it’s a two prong that is basically just a switch that turns the compressor on or off which I assume is the same function here except there are three wires present. I don’t know much about that style or what each wire does but maybe the Renix one can be adapted.
