My Dad (90) and his girlfriend (95) are both WWII veterans. Someone up at our American Legion Post set me up with this website called Honor Flight. They take veterans and fly them to Washington DC to see the War Memorials (free). This outfit is located all across the US. Right now they're looking for WWII veterans, so if you know of anyone (parent, friend, lonely person sitting in a senior housing unit) now is the time to sign them up. Dad w/girlfriend submitted forms and now leave early June out of Ohio. Check out their website and fill out the application.

Looks like one program will fly the Nam vets from Baltimore to DC only. That's about an hour's drive. Woopee!

Honor Flight Solo Program

Program Benefits

  1. Ideally designed for WWII, Korean War or Vietnam veterans and accompanying family or friends (“guardians”) willing to fund and secure their OWN transportation to the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport or the BWI Hilton.

Spend time at Fort Meade. Walked back from Baltimore one time, My buddy and I did make morning roll call.

That's dedication for you. (Or fear of the First Sergeant.)

I did a spell at Edgewood Arsenal. Marched in a couple of parades in Baltimore with the 1814 Color Guard. Shot a match at Fort Meade. I don't remember how I did, so I guess I must not have won.

This is a great program. My son's Scout Troop often volunteers, with other Troops in the DC area to meet and greet the vets at the airport and assist with the tours as well. Love the program!

Well my dad and his girlfriend are walking around Washington DC as I type. Couldn't go as a guardian since I would need a guardian. Honor Flight people are a bunch of good people. Its just that simple.
