Jeep Driver
Here is the starter button I want to use. I called Flaming River last week, they cannot incorporate the turn/wiper switch into their column, so I'd have to move the wipers to the dash and that ain't gonna happen. But, they do sell the buttons separately and they will fit the cylinder hole.
carnuck
Well, if I can't get the stock switch to work, no way I'll get that to work!!! Be sure and document it. I added a push button switch with a strong spring so it can’t be accidentally activated. I still wonder if you got the wrong part in the box. The non-tilt slider switch is reversed to the tilt one and acts like you describe if put in the wrong column. NC Tom
Are you ready for this crap? Are you sure? Well, I had the correct switch installed correctly the entire time. That's the good news. The bad news is, I'm a dumba$$!!!!! When testing the install, I just loosely attached the neg batt terminal. Of course, this was enough juice to power the accessories, but . . . NOT ENOUGH TO START THE DANG THING!!!! All I had to do was correctly tighten that dang terminal. And the real kicker, I knew that, but didn't do it! Many thanks for all the help offered and let this be a lesson for an ignition switch replacement. PROPERLY reconnect the neg batt terminal! HOrnbrod
Weird the starter solenoid didn't click. Were the battery posts very corroded? But anyhow, glad it's starting for you.

Green Mesa XJ
You can get plenty of power for accessories including headlights but not have the juice to run the starter because of battery cables. My 85 XJ did this to me a few months in to ownership, young kid with a old jeep and a new battery couldn’t figure it out at first because the cables looked ok on the out side. carnuck
My recent go around with the starter and battery not fully charging had to do with the cheesy cables put on by the previous owner. Packages said they were Oreilly’s brand but it was melted off inside the clamp so who knows what happened before I got it. I cut the ends off and put No-Ox on the bare cable with bolt on clamps.
