I am replacing the entire AC system on my MJ (except evaporator).  After I removed the condenser, I was surprised to see I have a single core radiator.  It's the original.  The tanks have the place for the second core, but it's not there.  Mine is an original 4.0/auto/AC/2wd.  Mopar part # 52004917.

Is this common?  I thought a 4.0 would have a 2 core.

I have a spare rad out of a later XJ, found it in a junkyard, looked like it had been installed and never even filled up.  It will be going in.

OK, thanks Don.  Did the max cooling option add anything else, besides a two core radiator?  I already had an electric fan, because I had AC, I suppose?

AFAIK, for the HOs the Max Cooling option came standard with the Tow package. The Max Cooling option also had the factory transmission cooler if equipped with the AW4. You could also mix and match any options you wanted when ordering, so anything was possible. My base model 91 also came with factory A/C and had the aux fan.

OK, thank you again.  I've pulled two oem trans coolers to eventually use on my XJ and MJ, but never understood why some XJs had it and others didn't.  Being a part of a towing package makes perfect sense.

Yep, I had a dinky tiny radiator too. My truck was totally optionless except for the 4.0, A/C and automatic trans.

That sounds like mine, lol.  It didn't even have a radio.
