Might ad another MJ to the herd....worth it?

Hey all i have a chance to get another MJ...here are the specs i know so far:

 

89 MJ: Sport truck

2wd, D35, 2.5 4cylinder (low compression), 5spd, NO RUST ANYWHERE

 

i have a complete 92 4.0 HO w/harness and AW4 (2wd) w/ everything that i can swap in...asking price $700....Yea or Nah???

would plan to do a 4wd swap in the future...should i buy it??

Have you checked it out underneath.. brakes good?If it only has low compresion and the body is rust free... it is a perfect canidate for an engine swap. Keep in mind that engine swaps never go as planned.. so what ever you figure it would cost you tripple that and youu might have an actual budget to start with :brows:

yea underneath is remarkably clean...everything works...just has 2 clylinders w/ lower than normal compression...the best thing about the engine and tranny swap is all of the parts are ready to go into whatever i buy and its free...other than the purchase of a truck of course... jamminz.gif

Go for it, don't even think twice, what you waiting for, didn't you buy it yet???

 

I would say that the body has to be almost perfect, compaired to the rust outs I see up here, selling for the same price. I'd jump right on that one :brows:

 

And like you said, you have a newer drive train for it, and convert it to 4wd.

 

Pingpong is right, a complete change over of Every thing is needed to upgrade to the '92, even the complete dash. Just follow CEThomas on his conversion. There will be problems, but in the end, you'll have a nother fine Comanche :bowdown:

with only skimming and looking at the prics, I deduce that the price is reasonable, if not great. as such, and as a result of my whymsical decisionmaking skills, I believe you should purchase it. therefore, consider my word law, and go buy it. if not, I shall seek to avenge it upon you.

i would love to get it and i told the guy that...he said that nobody is interested b/c of the motor and he lives 90mi away from the closest town...no prob for me i have a flatbed to tow it..so he said its mine if i want it :D ..the only thing holding me up is i have to sell my Dodge 4x4 first b4 i can by the Manche....got a place to store it...right next to the 92XJ so i can pull everything and swap it while they are next to each other... jamminz.gif

i just re-read this and why would i need the dash to do the swap...i thought all i needed was the motor, trans, harness's, ECU and TCU

 

 

 

 

I wrote that because it would be easyer to change out the entire dash, getting the guages, all the wiring, the ECU and TCU from the '92 Xj you have, to save alot of problems down the road with the +'91 engine wiring harness, if you want to craw under the dash to do this, fine, but 4 bolts, couple screws and you have the complete dash sitting on a work bench :brows: You can re-use your MJ dash, and just change out the harness on the bench, better that laying on the floor boards.

 

Also the old door jamb switches, are not plug and play with the +91 harness, and the XJ cargo harness needs to be "tied" into the rear light harness (under the driver's seat) so your not working under the dash.

 

Hardrock, I seen that you did this, but did your MJ ever run?? So you couldn't tell if anything was working right or not, plus you didn't have a TCU to deal with, having the BA10.

It would have with about 3 quarts of oil, a new battery, and maybe 10 mins worth of work. Everything was hooked up, and it worked beforehand, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
