48wilys
hi, I have an 88 comanche with the 2.5 and a 4 speed. Will the ax-5(I think that is the 5 speed) bolt right up, or do I have to buy some type of adaptor? Thanks for helping out
Pete M
The AX-5 will for sure (it's the most common 5speed found behind 2.5 and 2.8L engines), but the AX-15 (and Peugeot) found behind the 4.0Ls won't bolt up. Although the AX-15 is technically possible with either the aftermarket adapter or some creativity with a certain Dakota bellhousing.

Eagle
The AX-4 and AX-5 are the same transmission. The AX-4 just has a bunch of empty space where the 5th gear parts go in the AX-5.

Does that mean I could buy the AX-5 gear set, and put it into the tranny I have?
87manche
it's not that easy. for what it would cost to do that you could find an ax-5.
carnuck
I have a 2wd one here in Seattle for $50 from my '86 (has carb bellhousing though) I have modded another internal slave bell to take an external slave too.
