HOrnbrod
Went out to the backyard this morning and it was full of holes, each about 4" wide and 5" deep. All over the damn place. I knew they were armadillo holes because I've seen them before, but never in my yard or in N. Alabama. The only armadillos I've ever seen here were roadkill. Gus the cocker spaniel was enraged and picked up the trail quickly and followed it down to the lake. There were footprints in and out of the water, so that's how the bastids got in my yard, they freakin' swam in. The whole yard is fenced so it was the only way. Bastids. Gus will be on watch tonight on the back deck, and I expect to see several armadillo carcasses in the morning. But I'll be happy with one.The bastids made a mess........... Anyone ever had an armadillo problem? This is my first.
Pete M
I drove through Missouri the other day and I'm pretty sure the state animal of MO is the upside-down armadillo. :rotf:
Knucklehead97
I found a bunch of holes just like that in my yard and couldn't figure out what the heck put them there. Now it makes sense because as you know, I'm in N Alabama as well. I see Armadillos out here all the time. Mostly dead on the road thankfully. Had one really jack up the underside of a little Sentra I drove for a year one time.
1992EliminatorSWB4x4
Hornbrod, down south in Wetumpka Alabama, I have had to many dillo's . I trapped 16 of them last year in a live trap. Tried sitting out in the yard, we are on Lake Jordan, all night waiting for them with my shotgun in hand but that is just to time consuming. My best way was to take two long boards 6 inches wide and about 12 feet long and funnel them into the trap, no bait or nothing in the live trap.,also if you have a fence put a live trap along the fence, they can not see well at all especially at night. Now I always have a live trap along my board fence and catch one occasionally still. Hope you catch them , they dig lots of holes looking for the white grubs in the soil. Lime on the grass helps as it eliminates the grubs. Best of luck !!!! Bill
HOrnbrod
Thank you - I've been dillo educated. Gus has kept our back yard vermin free for years (possums, snakes, turtles, geese, ducks, etc.). He's even killed a few copper heads and moccasins. But he's getting older, and has a buddy now he's training, a rescue miniature poodle who's really doing well out there. But they are both dillo ignorant, as I am, and I appreciate your experienced advice on these critters.
benjy_26
I used to controll them with a Savage bolt action .22lr loaded with Aquila CB's. Quiet as a BB gun, but worked well at 15-20yds. I guess word spreads among 'dillos. They stopped coming around after a while!
