Aw4 floor shifter cable routing

Recommended Posts

There may be another post answering this question but I was unable to find it. Feel free to post a link if you know where it is.

Scenario: I have an 89 eliminator, aw4 Trans on the floor. The cable was missing when I bought the Jeep. I purchased a shift cable with the length of 57".

Question: Does anyone know (possibly have pictures) the routing of this cable? It doesn't seem long enough to route through the firewall near the brake booster like I have seen.

If you have the floor shifter the cable should exit the hole by the trans tunnel ( circled in yellow on the links provided ) .

On column shift models the cable exits towards the drivers side of the booster . Here's a pic of where the shifter cable exits on the column shift models .

After you go through the wall, is there supposed to be a bracket you feed the line through?

I have a mechanic friend that is helping me with some of the things I don't have the equipment for. It's at his shop. He said I have an existing line going through the firewall by the brake booster. He told me to return the line I bought. I am getting conflicting information.

Can anyone clear up what that line is, what am I dealing with?

Thanks in advance.

Look at the diagram above. Floor shifters have two cables; one for shifting gears that goes to the transmission, and a shift PARK interlock cable that goes to the steering column. Part numbers for the two cables are also on the diagram. Your mechanic is right, return the cable you bought. The p/n for the floor gear shift cable you need is 52077532.
