Tanner
Has anyone had issues with there pump whining excessively and the blowing off the return line at all? I have replaced the hose and the pump is brand new. After it blew off the first time I made sure to double check the hose clamps. But I feel like there shouldn't be enough pressure to blow off the return line should there?
1987Comanche
By brand new you mean fresh reman, correct? I just finished building my own CB series Saginaw P/S pump for a FWD GM L body b/c the last 3 didn't work properly. I finally got fed up after finding the inside of the reman pump was awful. The TC series pump (in our Jeeps) is considered the Hi-Po Saginaw design. Pump whine is either air in the system or excess vane to pressure plate/thrust plate clearance. The vanes should be as close in size to the pump ring as possible (I matched the CB to 0.0001"). Your flow control valve may be damaged, improperly assembled, or dirty. Depending on how deep you want to go you can swap the pump for another one, disassemble it, or pick up a jy unit. Bear in mind the next reman may have the same (or worse) problems. The Saginaw steering box is the least likely part of the system to cause problems.
Elijah808
I'm having this same problem thing whines like crazy. I've hear you can bleed the system but j can't seem to find any nipple.
Minuit
I'd expect that behavior from a "new" reman part. I'd rather pull a part off a 500,000 mile XJ than run a reman of... pretty much anything, really. I'd be sending it back to the parts store in a heartbeat, unless it was something like a plug that needed to be taken out of a port or something. You bleed the system by putting the front of the truck on jackstands and turning the steering wheel lock to lock at least 20 times without the engine running. Keep doing that until the fluid level stays consistent. When it does the system should be clear of air.

Yes it is a fresh reman, I have a new one on its way currently because it is the first time I had run the pump in any compactly. I had already bled the system when I started the truck. And double check cold fluid levels. I noticed that the pump immediately pushed all the fluid in the gear box and the reservoir was empty suggesting some sort of blockage through the return on the pump. Would you suggest just rebuilding the pump on my own?
1987Comanche
Have you tried topping off the fluid? It may have sucked all the fluid down as soon as you started it. The seal kit for the pump is pretty cheap ($10 or so) but you'll need a good donor to start with. I hit Pull-a-Part and found a non-reman CB series from a 2003 Malibu. The major difference between the CB and TCs is that the TC uses a bearing (CB uses a bushing). The CB and type P pumps (ham cans) use the same vanes. I'd think the TC does as well but can't confirm that. The pump is fairly easy to rebuild. Here are a few pics of it going back together: I have a lot more pics if you're interested
Tanner
Yeah I did attempt to top it off when I noticed, however that's just about when it blew the return hose off from the pressure and shot PS fluid all over me, my house and my engine bay haha. Not a fun experience. Happened two times actually. I am interested but I think I'll see how the next reman does before I go that far
