CamoCrazy
Okay so I'm going out on a limb on this project. I know its been done in YJ's and TJ's but ive never seen them in an MJ (or XJ for that matter). What I'm wanting to do is swap a 5.2L Magnum out of a 1999 Dodge Durango into my 1991 Jeep Comanche with a 4.0L, AX15, and NP231. I have the chance to buy this donor for $500. Its a 1999 Dodge Durango with a 5.2L, 44RE, and NP242(if i had to guess). As far as getting this motor to fit, that shouldnt be a problem, but the wiring harness and computer will be a different story. Is there anybody out there that can give a little advice on this swap? And if anybody wants to put their negative comments about "thats a waste of time" or "just drop a chevy 350 in it", i don't want to hear it. Hopefully someone can help me here
johnj92131
Here is a link to a 318 in a Comanche project: http://comancheclub.com/topic/3219-project-black-betty/ Nine pages and lots of good information for you to read!
Streetwedg
1986 4cyl auto 4wd used a Chrysler trans. Get a small block mopar 904 and you can take the tail shaft and stock off the 4wd trans install on 904. That gives you a 4wd trams that bolts up to your 318 with no adapters and uses stock trans mount.you just have to make motor mounts.
FrankTheDog
@streetwedg, Why would he go from a 4 speed auto with overdrive and a transfercase to a 3 speed auto? The 44RE already has a T-case. I bet the 44RE is much more common now than any 80's setups. Lots of old ZJ's around with the 44.
Streetwedg
It's just an option. You don't need tcu, and don't have to mod trans mount or cross member.
shelbyluvv
The 46RH has no TCM either. It came stock 93-95 ZJs.
