88eliminator
Hello, I have a 1988 jeep comanche eliminator, which is currently stock height. I am lifting the front about 3.5 inches and was wondering whats the best way that I can level or just lift the rear up with out going SOA. and also keeping the original leaf springs. I also was wondering if you add a leaf on leaf springs under axel (SUA) how much would that lift it?
gogmorgo
Depends on the add-a-leaf. A longer shackle would give you some lift, although I don't know if it's recommended to go that high with only shackles. A 2" Chevy drop shackle will lift the MJ 2", and is pretty commonly done as part of a budget boost. Shouldn't be too hard to find an extra 1.5" in an add-a-leaf. Usually, however, given that there are vastly more options for lift in the front (since it's the same as an XJ) it's usually recommended to set up the rear lift first, and then figure out how much lift you'll need in the front to level it out. 87MJTIM
I purchased General Springs 3:2 leaf pack. These raised my bed approx. 2 - 3" from the sagging old leaf pack. See MJOM July 2014 for pictures.
87Warrior
To get 3" of lift using your stock leaf springs, your best option is a shackle lift and an Add-a-leaf. I used coils for the front of my truck that netted about 3" of lift and accompanied them with Chevy drop shackles and a cut down 2wd MJ main leaf AAL for the rear. The AAL didn't give me the buck board feeling that most folks claim the AAL will give you. It's also full length going almost eye to eye.

Eagle
I also was wondering if you add a leaf on leaf springs under axel (SUA) how much would that lift it? Exactly as Gogmorgo wrote: It depends. I had a Trailmaster 4" lift that used AALs in the rear. Rancho has a full-length (sort of) for the XJ and MJ that gives about 1-1/2" when installed in an MJ. Keep in mind that the more lift you get from an AAL, the stiffer the ride. Your ideal is probably to combine a modest AAL with longer shackles to make up the total of 3-1/2".
