Cigar lighter delete panel

Recommended Posts

It has the hole in the back, just like a regular lighter panel.  It's just covered over with the "whatever you call it" textured plastic stuck on the front.

No lighter "sign" though.

I'd thought about cutting it out and putting one of those USB port setups in it.  But I figure one could do that with a regular panel just as easy.  Easier, since you wouldn't have to cut out the hole.

You could still do that, but instead of using the "middle" Spread them out kind of like on the prime 4x4 panel.

I got one of these to use with my HU.

But, I think I might install that somewhere in/around the center console for a cleaner install. And run a dual USB charger at the Cig lighter area.

Lighter panels are plentiful in the XJs you find in pic-n-puls. Your wire dash loom should exist with the connections labeled from the factory to install the lighter if you want.

Both my MJ and XJ have the factory lighters.  Thanks for the tip, however I am a self proclaimed "Pik-n-Pull" expert!

Very cool item, added to my wishlist for future consideration.  Like the idea of installing that in the center console so my iPod is out of sight and the cord isn't cluttering up the dash/cab.

I have a 97-up XJ center console in my MJ, and since MJ has Foot pedal Park-brake the console opening is essentially "useless". I have thought about removing the "brush-pieces" and making some kind of panel/mount. Or a "hidden" compartment of sorts. Maybe install the plug there. Or, I was thinking maybe install the plug under the ashtray cover. This way it would be hidden when not in use.

Delete panels aren't exactly abundant, I would suggest if you have one don't wreck it by using it for switches or modifying it.

My Silverado had a place inside the center console that looked like it was for mounting a power port.  I went ahead and drilled it out and mounted/wired one.  Handy to leave the cell phone or iPod charging but out of sight and no wire hanging around.  I can't remember if a late model XJ console lends itself to that, but it's a good idea.

The factory consoles in MJs had a plastic cover instead of the whiskers.  Obviously the late model XJ consoles didn't have that option, since no more MJ.

I tend to feel the same way, but don't imagine anybody will be searching one out.  It will go in the big box of extra XJ/MJ parts in the garage...
