Dana 35C Non C clip rear AXLE questions

Hey everyone,

 

So I am now working on the rear axle of the truck. Doing the brakes and while at it, I am fixing a seal leak on the passenger side from the stub shafts.

I took them out last night and I am having a hard time locating the correct parts for the stub axles.

I need the bearings, inner and outer seals for it. 

 

I have a DANA 35C non C Clip Version.

 

Could anyone provide me with some help?

I think I found the correct bearings for it here:

However, I still can't locate the seals. This axle uses an inner and outer seal, since the bearing itself is a tapered roller bearing that you are supposed to repack with grease.

The inner seal that i took out had a stamp of : S-395 on it. But I can't cross reference that online to anything. 

I cannot press the bearing out myself, so I can't see any markings on the outer seal right now.

 

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated it.

Correction:  You have a Dana 35, NOT a Dana 35C.   (The C is for C-clip...)

 

Rock Auto lists two kits, one with timken bearings, and one with torrington.   Just looked up an '86 XJ.  $12.  I would think Napa can get one of the two p/n's.  Possibly AZ or O'R too.  ??

Thanks for the postings.

I was able to take the parts to NAPA and we where able to find all the parts. 

Turns out that even thou its a 1991, it has an axle made in 1989 lol. Go figure.

 

Either way, for the axles ready to pop back in. Ill update the parts list of what I got later tonight here for future reference to others.

the C does not stand for C-clip.  it stands for Custom, as in the incomplete axles were shipped by Dana for completion by Jeep (or something along those lines).  :thumbsup:

Wow, that's a new one on me.   I'd always seen it used to denote C-clip, vs. the non-c-clip axle. 

 

Here's a link to an article that suggests exactly what you're saying.   So all jeep D35's are D35c's, but some are c-clip and some aren't...  Great, that's not confusing...  :)

OK... thought I had pictures of the boxes.... this is what is in my RockAuto recent history. Sorry alot has been ordered lately....

In my case I ended up I think with two sets of the outer seals. Because the out bearing comes as a kit and includes the bearing, race, seal and retainer. 

 

Here are some pictures and will give you some numbers for cross reference. 

 

 

 

 

 

That inner is fun to remove....sometimes. 

 

 

 

 

Going out to the garage to try to find the bearing set part number.

 

For me I paid $35 per axle to have the old ones cut off and the new ones pressed on. All the machine shops were the same. 

Which was good cause I have one guy very close to my work and he is awesome. Don't like to pick about price but always call around.

OK.... The National 473212 is the inner. Kept/marked one of those boxes. 

 

The Centrics 41764003 indeed are the outers I still have the two of those I ordered before the bearing set

which came with another set.

Correction to your correction: He has a Dana 35C. The 'C' is for "customer," meaning that Dana shipped the axles to Jeep incomplete, for customer completion. It's a common misconception that the 'C' is related to the c-clip versions, but it's not.

Glad its all ready to install now. Just gonna tidy up the rear brakes a bit before installing the axles, since there is more space that way.
