I recently got TJ canyons wheels (15×8) and I have a line on a GREAT set of 225/75/15 tires for a straight trade for the crappy mud tires I have. Are those tires width to little for my rims? They measure out to only 8.86" is why I'm worried. I just wanna know if they will be safe to run for a while.

I finally found ONE Cooper tire that's still offered in 15-inch sizes. For the 225/75-15 size they list the approved rim width as 6" to 7".

Dang. I may just slap them on the 15×7's I already have on the Jeep just to have a good street tire on it until I find some used 235's. Just tired of mud tires. Gas mileage sucks and the road noise gets annoying...

What happens when you run tires on rims that are wider than recommended is that the tread tends to arch up (away from the pavement) in the center of the tread. The result is rapid wear on the outer edges and the shoulders. To counteract that, you have to run the tires at higher pressures to get a flat contact patch. But ... that pressure may be higher than the maximum recommended for the tire.

Simpletire.com    235/75/15

Was very happy with my experience with them.  My Bridgestone 265/75/16 tires were being discontinued.  Came up short buying them up from Wal-Mart.

Used simpletire.com to fill out my full set and then took them all to Wal-Mart for mounting, life time balancing and road hazard on ALL OF THEM    :)

thats exactly what I was thinking. Which is why I will probably just put them on the 15x7's until I find a bigger set. Even though I love those black Canyons and want to see them mounted on the Jeep... And I tried Simpletire, great prices! Just still to much for me to currently spend on a set of tires that won't be on the Jeep for very long. Hoping to regear and run 31's next summer :D
