1989 Pioneer Budget Build

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted in a while. I'm still going at it. Haven't worked on the MJ in a while other than just driving it about once a week. Still running good. I finally decided to tackle the passenger bedside. Cut out the rot, painted with POR-15, and welded in a piece of metal from Lowe's. My welds look pretty bad as I didn't realize my Gas for my welder was out. I just thought I didn't know what I was doing. Lesson learned! Anyways here are some pics.

I ran out of sand paper today for DA sander, so I plan to knock the fiberglass bondo down this week and prime it. I also plan to get my passenger rocker cut out this week.

Knocked out the bondo work today and primed it. Bedside is closer to being paintable. Also took some under coating to my fender wells. Next step is cutting out the rocker on this side and weld in the 2x6. After that it's downhill in getting prepped to paint.

Spent more time working on the body today. Filled in a dent that's been there forever. Also decided to re weld my brackets that hold my fender flares on. Couldn't get some of the studs to line up, so along the top I just used a bolt, nut, and washer to snug it to the body. Worked out pretty good if I do say so myself!

Also got the passenger side rocker cut out. Got my buddy coming over again to weld it in tomorrow. After welding it in, I plan to raptor line from the body line down and also the fender flares.

Took some time today and bed lined th bottom half of the MJ. My plan was too put two costs of Rust Oleum bed liner and top coat with the one thing of raptor liner I had left over from my bed. Well after mixing up the raptor liner and attempting to spray it wouldn't spray. I cleaned the gun several times and tried everything. Long story short, I wasted a whole bottle of raptor liner and ended up going to advance auto to get a can of Duplicolor. It actually worked really well and allowed me too finish the project today.

Good job on the rockers, the black really ties it all together, gives it a clean look.

I have to agree. Just ready to get the color on. Now that the big body work is done, I can get some primer on it. Ordered a new drivers side fender last night. Once that gets here and installed I'll be ready to spray primer!

Finally got around to getting the MJ painted this weekend. I went with Truck Bed liner for entire body. I chose the color Anvil and used Raptor liner. These pictures aren't the best, but I plan to take some better ones  once I get the truck back together.

Redid the Bedliner on the rockers yesterday. Here is a good picture of before and after with out reading through the entire thread. Also ordered a Logans Metal Works bumper for the front.

Now that the exterior is pretty much done, I started ripping out the carpet and interior trim on the passenger side today. I still would like to be able to drive the truck, so I'm planning on doing this side first. The rust wasn't too awful, however when I tried to loosen the bottom seat belt attachment it decided to come out. Not only will have to patch some holes, I'll have to figure out how to address the seatbelt. Any and all ideas are welcome!

Got the Logan metal works front bumper installed today. Came with mounting brackets and all the hardware. Was less than $400 to my door! Fitment was great, wasn't hard to install other than having too drop my alternator. It attaches at four points instead of the stock 2. I still have to trim my fenders and flares. Also will most likely remove the stock tow hooks as well, but haven't decided on that just yet.
