GregM
My vacuum tank that sits below the front right headlight has the tabs broken off it due to a previous minor accident. Is a replacement available or does anyone have a used one available? I'm not finding it anywhere. There is 91-95 available but not sure if it will bolt in or needs to be modified. Current tank works but is held in with zip ties.
Rockfrog
The vacuum bottle for my 1988 MJ is exactly the same as the one on my 2000 XJ.
johnj92131
Know you are asking for a stock replacement vacuum tank and I do not have one. BUT... Have you seen this thread in the DIY section? http://comancheclub.com/topic/46475-how-to-move-your-vacuum-canister/ The thread also contains a link to an earlier thread that may interest you. GregM
That was a big help, also answered some questions about the tow hooks too, which are missing on my 89. Still would like to find an original vacuum canister, the mounting ears are broken off mine. Might be able to 3D print it...
GregM
The vacuum bottle for my 1988 MJ is exactly the same as the one on my 2000 XJ. I'll have to try the later XJ tank and see if it will work.
Rockfrog
My 88 was supplied with a smaller round ball, as opposed to the football some have mentioned. I just pulled a football from a 92, other than it's size the smaller "balls" are the same fittings wise. It's one of those parts I don't think changed at all during the production run of the XJ/MJ's
GregM
Crown makes a reproduction, part number 52004366, but says it is 91-95. So the question is: what is the difference between an 89 tank and a 91 tank, if any...
shelbyluvv
That is a junk yard part. Almost every XJ will have them behind the bumper. Probably $5 at a pick your part. Tow hooks were an option on these trucks. Yours are probably not missing, they were just not ordered. Be careful with knock off tow hooks. The OEM hooks have an extra brace that most aftermarket offerings don't include.

It's just a cannister with a vacuum port on it, nothing fancy, you can make one out of just about anything, seen them made from water bottles before. As mentioned above, hit the wreckers and snag one for next to free.
GregM
Here is a photo of what I believe are the tow hook bracket mounting points. You can see where something used to be mounted there: You can also see the vacuum tank with the broken mounting tabs. The fender is damaged and I have a replacement, some additional work will be required in this area to straighten things back up. Here is a photo showing the valence panel from the front, with the square holes where I think the tow hook brackets come through the valance: Here is a side photo of the valence panel. Looks like it hit something in the middle. Not sure if it can be straightened (probably):
