Keith Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 1989 4.0 engine with 5 speed. Engine started stalling recently when it comes to an idle, runs fine from 1000rpm and up. In checking things I removed the rubber hose that runs from the valve cover grommet to the intake manifold and the engine runs, hook the hose back up and the engine quits. Any suggestions?
relyt120 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Make sure that hose is not collapsing, had a similar issue before. If need be replace it with a sturdy new hose, I used fuel hose.
cruiser54 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Is the tube clear of crud? You can get a new hose and grommet for about $8 from Napa or Dorman. See my Tip #22 for the numbers.
Keith Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 Did all of the suggestions, hoses clean & OK, TB was dirty, cleaned, engine runs better still not 100% but driveable. Thanks to the responders.
cruiser54 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Try doing tips 1,3,4, and 5 in my signature link. Make sure your intake manifold bolts are snug.
