JTPioneer
So I've got a 91 metric ton pioneer . Bought with 78000 original mile. My plan is id really like to ditch the bed, and build a flat bed on it. Than build a camper from scratch that fits on the flat bed. Looking for any thoughts on the flat bed if anyone has done such a thing. Thanks
BlackBeast
Dang unless it's rough don't ditch the bed! Low miles and all! Picts!
Crash
Or make sure the bed goes to a really good home.
yellaheep
Yep, that's a rare truck you got there. Some of us will cringe a bit with the modifications you have planned but you gotta be the one to love your truck so I hope it works out for ya. Do a "flatbed" and "flat bed" search on here - there are several short threads all about custom designs. There were quite alot of commercial Toyota dually trucks with flat beds sold and those flat beds would be damn near perfect in size, or perhaps wider than you want.....:dunno:. I frequently see these in junk yards.......
JTPioneer
Dang unless it's rough don't ditch the bed! Low miles and all! Picts! Ive seen these beds in alot worse shape. The inside of the bed is immaculate. No rust. Drivers side is also great. The passenger side of the bed is the issue. In front of the wheel is all rotted out. I cut out the bad spot and patched it so there is no sharp corners. The bed/gate/lights will all go to a good home upon removal. So a little more on my idea for this project. I'm imaging a "overland" concept. I want this to be a reliable means to head out for the weekend and not need anywhere to stay. I want it to be dirt road capable. Not a huge lifted wheeling machine. I'm currently working on figuring out things like power. Leaning towards solar on roof and a generator. If someone could help me with posting pictures that would be great. JTPioneer
No cringing needed. I'm not chopping this truck up like so many people do. Its gonna stay basically stock. And will not be beat through the woods or mud. Only real modification is going to be the flat bed.
teamsmith
Here's a wonderfully shot video of a guy who made his own drop-in style camper for his longbed. Not much of an instructional but a great video, nonetheless. A 23 year old kid, living in his truck on his way to epic surf destinations. The things I could have done if my parents had been wealthy. They say, "I'm better off," to which I retort, "Of course you'd say that." JTPioneer
Very cool videos! I like the fact the roof flips up like a old v.w bus.
Crash_AF
Here's a site where you can purchase full scale blueprints for various different home-built campers. http://www.glen-l.com/campers/glenlrv.html Good luck with your project. Joe

Thanks so much for sharing these! As a surfer, I loved the surfing, as a cinematographer, I loved the cinematography, and of course as an mj owner, I loved the mj – very clean. Does this guy have a build thread here on comanche club??

There's a bit more info on Teva's website here: http://www.teva.com/blog?postid=escape-from-bigfoot-country-the-adventure-of-woody-the-blue-ox-part-ii The photographer was Jeremy Koreski; he has some additional photos here: http://www.jeremykoreski.com/NEW-WORK/WOODYANDTHEBLUEOX/thumbs Lastly, I picked up Trevor's videos from following a blog called the restless transplant, which is about a different guy who lives out of his camper and surfs. http://www.arestlesstransplant.com/

Jerry
Good to see other folks using their MJ's for camper rigs. Didn't build mine, I took the easy option and just loaded an old import slide-in. Good to go :)
teamsmith
That is an amazing build for sure. I would need to put a glow in the dark note on the inside lid for when I wake up, disoriented, in the middle of the night that reads, "Calm down! You have not been buried alive inside an ice cream freezer!"
