CJ's MJ
Thanks. So I should look for a different front axle? Reading a lot of the guys say the 30 is trash.

If your not going any bigger in tire size It may be worth keeping around. Did you figure out your gear ratio?
Incommando
The high pinion Dana 30 is a decent axle for the MJ. There are simple upgrades to improve it. Probably the most bang for the buck is replacing the front axle shafts with ones with larger u-joints. As long as you are staying with 33" tires or so the the D30 is fine. Many people run up to 35" tires with them.
CJ's MJ
I am doing the gear ratio now. It was raining earlier so couldn't do it earlier in the day.
Rockfrog
I run 35's on my 30, does fine. The biggest issue with the 30 is housing flex. A full case locker/LSD and a good differential cover will solve a fair bit of that. Otherwise a simple truss goes a long way if you plan to beat on it. The larger ujoints are the same size as a D44 so not exactly weak. It's no D60 but is decent axle for what it is.
CJ's MJ
That's great to hear. I couldn't get my cover off differential yesterday. PO painted it and bolts are stuck. I didn't have the time to remove parts to get a decent sized cheater attached to break them free.
