Cmbechtold Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I have a 89 comanche 4x4, 4.5 lift, Dana 44, posi loc, 32" all terrains, and winch bumper. I moved to an area with about a mile long driveway that is off-roading pretty much the whole way and already caught my driveshaft on a rock and broke it which bent rear leaf springs and chipped rear differential gears. I was wondering what are the best upgrades that will make my comanche the most reliable and will help me get up driveway on bad weather days such as snow and mud. I got the driveshaft fixed, new rear leaf springs, the mechanic says the gears are fine for now, and also has the posi lok put in because the vacuum system was just not staying locked in. So what are some of the best things I can get to make sure I don't run into issues again or get stuck?
Cmbechtold Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 My build so far http://comancheclub.com/topic/42286-1989-comanche-lynchburg-va-help/?fromsearch=1
Cmbechtold Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Haha ya I'm renting on 250 acres if it was my land I would
Cmbechtold Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Well even if I don't do some stuff now I want to do it later so just let me know what u think I should get. I'm making a wish list
Pete M Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I would get a SYE and a stronger rear driveshaft. (and if I was cracking open the t-case, I'd look into the 6 planetary gear set and wide chain conversions you can do from junkyard parts. not because it's absolutely necessary, but because it's immensely cool and does make the t-case stronger. :D ) then I'd get a locker for the both axles and armor for the undercarriage. having the grip of lockers means less wild tire spinning and more control.
Pete M Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 on second thought, i think I'd do the lockers first.
Cmbechtold Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Ya I'd love to get lockers I'm starting to save for them which would you suggest that are both reliable and price efficient
Incommando Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 For a budget build I like Aussie. American built and reliable. A Chinese built version is cheaper and called Lokka... but it is made in China of Chinese metal.
Pete M Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 yup. pair of aussies will help get you up your drive. if I remember right they are under 300 each and install pretty easy.
