ownedueasy
Ok so my 91s manual steering box is shot. And was wondering what all would be needed to convert to power steering.. Just a power steering pump, new gear box and new belt and hoses?
benjy_26
Pretty much. I'm using the set up out of a 94 ZJ in my 87 2.5.
mnkyboy
The pump should even fit the bracket thats already there. The 2.5l uses a remote fluid reservoir on the core support, the 4.0l pump has the reservoir mounted to it. Either will work but the 4.0l pumps reservoir may interfere with the factory air box setup. ownedueasy
Is that 100% all I need? Checking before i head to parts yard. And the XJ steering boxes are the same correct? No different steering shaft or anything needed?
Comanche County
Either will work but the 4.0l pumps reservoir may interfere with the factory air box setup. Yup, I just converted a manual 87' 2.5L TBI MJ to power steering. My donor was a 95/96' 2.5L XJ from the JY. I tried using a 4.0 renix PS set up, it can be made to work but it will interfere with the airbox...if you ditched the airbox and used a cone type air filter I imagine it would work okay. You won't need the steering shaft. The boxes are the same length. Get the pitman arm. The manual pitman arm will not fit the PS box...its too small. mnkyboy
The steering shafts are different but will interchange. The power one has a rubber dampener in it and the manual one doesn't.
dasbulliwagen
Don't use the ZJ pitman arm. It drops too far and will cause bump steer. You'll need an XJ MJ p/s pitman arm.
