Jacob Ochs Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 So in my 86 MJ I was plagued with the underpowered gas sucking 2.8l. But ive read around that a 1994 camaro 3.4L is a direct swap! So my questions are ·Will my AX-5 transmission just bolt right up? ·Will I be able to switch to a 3.4 EFI and have to do minimal changes? And any other information that anyone whose done this swap has to offer I would appreciate it! Thanks.
Dillithium Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 As far as I know, you will stay carburated. If you want EFI, be prepared to spend some cash and a lot of time on figuring out the wiring.
dasbulliwagen Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I've read somewhere before that its possible to keep the efi as a standalone system without doing too much work as long as you're comfortable with wiring. Do some research you should be able to find it.
dasbulliwagen Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The ax5 will bolt right up. You'll need to have your flywheel neutrally balanced by a machine shop as the new 3.4 is internally balanced and the 2.8 wasn't.

Also I've gotten pretty good at wiring since buying my MJ. When I bought it it ha sat for 2 years and mice had chewed through wires in the dash, tail light harness, main wire harness, ect... It was a mess!
Pete M Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 don't forget you'll need to add an electric fuel pump.
