zfinger
1990 Comanche 4.0L 5-speed 4x4 I'm in the process of replacing my throttle cable (the short cable, not the long option). The O'Reillys cable I got, when I snap it onto the ball, its super sloppy and loose. Couple pumps of the gas pedal and it pops right off the ball. Anyone else had this issue? NAPA has a cable on its way for me, hopefully it isn't the same BS. I compared the two cables side by side and the new one is much more open like it accepts a bigger ball. HOrnbrod
I just replaced mine, worked fine. Got it here: http://www.jeep4x4center.com/accelerator-cable-2-5l-4-0l-53006556.html EDIT: Just noticed you have a Renix. Disregard, my 91 has a different cable. Jeep Driver
Get a ball that fits your cable.
big66440
I used an ATP throttle cable and it's been perfect
zfinger
Got a different cable from NAPA and it snapped right on. The O'Reilly cable was a junk part.
Dando
I found the same problem, I replaced my cable last night from orielys and I am having the same problem. Is the ball replacable I couldn't tell.
zfinger
No, the ball doesn't appear to be replaceable. The ball on mine was also worn down which didn't help. The NAPA cable had a much tighter fit and would have worked regardless, but I got out the TIG rig and built up the flat spot again.
HOrnbrod
Using a dab of grease on the ball before assembly will help it last forever.

zfinger
How? You gonna press the ball out and press in a new one? Or by replacing the whole bracket?

Dando
While trying to figure something out to fix the problem until I get a better cable, I found something. I wouldn't consider this permenant by any means but I found that this new cable from orielys snaps onto the fitting that is slightly above and to the side, it used to be for my now disconnected cruise control cable it's not actually a ball end but it seems to work ok. Drove my truck about 50mi round trip with no problem.
