thejim42
Anyone ever rebuild a high pinion Dana 30 for a Comanche? I have a one that had bad bearings and ring and pinion. How hard is it to rebuild?
johnnyc
It's not hard if you know what you're doing. :) And since I don't, I pay people to do it. It requires special knowledge and tools. Figure a couple hundred for a new R&P, a hundred for a master rebuild kit, which will have all the necessary bearings and seals. And I have friends that help me with the labor for another hundred. If you have to take it to a shop, they'll probably charge you $300+.
Blue XJ
Ive rebuilt a few of them. Setting the gears properly is the hardest part. You reall only need a dial indicator and a lot of patience to do it though. Must easier to do on a bench then it is to do under the vehicle. SW86
I completely rebuilt and built up the current one I run. Only thing I didn't do was the welding (not necessary for basic rebuild) and gears. Everything else is easy and can be done with basic tools.
