1989 comanche pioneer "race truck"

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have recently became the new owner of a 1989 jeep comanche pioneer. It's 2WD and a short bed. She's got a nice patina on her. And I kinda like it. But I also would like to bring her to her former glory. But seeing its 2WD it wouldn't be a good mud truck or a good off road truck. My plans are to turn her into a race truck. But my first question I have for it is how else could I lower it in the back. For the front I can get some new coilovers for it but in the back I do not know how to get it lower. Would I be able to put a "shim or spacer" between the axle and the leaf spring to make it lower?

Need a 4wd trans, tcase, rear driveshaft, 4wd front axle, 4wd console and that's the bulk of it. You can pick up a wrecked or parts XJ for like $500 and use everything off it to covert. Aside from having to cut the trans tunnel for the 4wd shifter it's entirely bolt on.

You can throw XJ shackles on the rear to lower it about an inch.

This is a fairly recent thread by a newer member. He talks a bit about what he did to lower it, and you likely can get more by talking to him.

This one seems to be exactly what you're planning on doing.

And here's another, with lots of pics of the lowering process.

I'm interested in seeing how this turns out, as I was considering doing something similar with my MJ for a while.
