feerocknok
Does anyone have a take on why it seems biker cops give more tickets than warnings? I've been pulled over 18 times in the past 2.5 years and have never received a ticket until my last two times being pulled over. Both of these incidents involved biker cops. In the past I was pulled over for little things like my taillights being too pink or my license plate light being out, but also two major things, one being 92 mph on the highway. My first of two recent offenses was for driving my Toyota with "no fenders." That was blatently illegal. The truck seldom does see road time, but hadn't had a bed for 6 months prior to the ticket. Only the biker cop pulled me over to issue a fix-it ticket while patrol cars always just stared at me or gave me a head shake. My last incident was speeding. Didn't mean to, but it happened. 45 in a 25. Yes, it was fast, but I've always been let off with these things when they happened in the past. The biker cop, however, issued me a ticket. I fully respect the local/state law enforcement and appreciate Everything they do! But I'm just curious as to why the only citations that I've been issued are by law enforcement on a particular piece of transportational equipment. As well, many of my friends reside in this same boat.
offroader461
i was told by my dad who works for the sheriffs dept that the bike cops are just ticket writers really...they don't do traffic control or accidents like the car cops do...they just run radar and patrol speed zones... CEThomas
Yes, Bike units just write tickets and most time the unit is small and needs to show the brass that they do not cost the dept anything out of the general fund ;) Charles

Tracker
It's pretty much been said: their job is to write tickets. My brother is a State Traffic Officer for the California Highway Patrol, and he rides a motorcycle. He likes to blow out a dozen or so when he comes on at noon so he can hit a restuarant or coffee spot and write the reports during the afternoon traffic. Also, motor officers are often called on to work concentrated enforcement details in response to complaints from the public, or from collision statistics. If you get caught in one of these, save you breath.
Mitch
18 times? Maybe they are getting tired of pulling you over?
Bacon
bike cops are dedicated traffic officers. that's their job. traffic and only traffic. the guys in cars are on general duty, meaning traffic is only one of the hats they wear, and are most likely too busy responding to other calls to do much traffic. also, with a dedicated traffic section, the general duty guys may not ever do traffic enforcement, since they don't really have to. pingpong
You get pulled over a lot. It might be something about the way you are driving, or what you are driving. :brows: I also agree with what they said about the motor officers

feerocknok
I don't usually get pulled over for speeding. It's usually things like driving a suspicious vehicle that they need to look over. If they see that my taillights are too pink, they can pull me over to make sure the rest of the vehicle checks out, or doesn't... I see with them being strictly traffic officers that they would naturally write more tickets on that end of things. I guess it never clicked in my head. Oh well, I got the fix-it ticket fixed, so I can probably go to traffic school for the speeding ticket and get that dropped, and keep my clean record. pingpong
Where I live they can pull you over for your rig being over hieght or too low, exhaust too loud, or anything like that. The key is to drive the speed limit, and make sure you signal. don't drive your rig around if you know you have a burnt out bulb, or some other reason for them to justify pulling you. Biggest one... having mud falling off or on your rig as you drive down the road
Tracker
Biggest one... having mud falling off or on your rig as you drive down the road This is a big one- and so is its effect on motorcycle cops. It's a close second to flicking a cigarette out the sunroof and having it bounce off the cop's chest.
CWLONGSHOT
Biggest one... having mud falling off or on your rig as you drive down the road This is a big one- and so is its effect on motorcycle cops. It's a close second to flicking a cigarette out the sunroff and having it bounce off the cop's chest. A short time back this very thing happened to me!! I was out in the TJ and some foolish person did just this...hand out door...flick goes the cig...up and over and almost in my wifes lap, still lit! Well, wanna piss me off quick...this did it. Now, I am not a small person, I can be rather intimidating and I am now pissed. I pull up behind driver at a stop light, get out and prepare for a confrontation with said driver....only as I walk up, I see its a young girl with a couple friends in the car. So I clam down a notch as I hand the butt back to her. Calmly stating " You dropped this back a ways and I cought in for you...IN THE FRONT SEAT OF MY JEEP. Please use your ash tray next time." They all looked at me in stunned silence. Then offered MANY opologies and promices not to do this again. Followed by a have a nice day pleasentries. pingpong
That would have been one of those situations where I would have had brake problems as my rig drilled the other car :brows:
