jda Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I own a 1986 comanche gear ratio front gear ratios 3.54 rear ratios 3.55 will cause any problems with transfer case or clutch?
Pete M Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Nope. that's perfectly normal in axles. because of differing axle sizes, the ring gear size change and the tooth count changes. manufacturers just get the ratios close enough to work. the difference between a 3.55 and a 3.54 is smaller than the difference in tire diameters. there are limits though. 4.09, 4.10 and 4.11 are all considered the same ratio. but, for example, mix a 4.10 with a 4.30 and problems will happen.
Spectormj Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 On the topic of gear ratio when does gear lube and a regear need to be done

This helped a lot I have 4.10 gear ratio in my front D30 and rear D35 and I'm looking for a ford 8.8/Dana 44 and I've found one with a 4.09 gear ratio, so this will work with no issues?
Incommando Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 4.27 & 4.30 are the widest factory differences that I know of but you may be able to go further
