After 28 years, the much criticized plastic valve cover on my 86 2.5L 4x4 started leaking. After removing it in preparation for replacing the gasket I discovered 2 cracks which are the cause of the problem rather than a deteriorated gasket.

I am more than satisfied with the performance of the original valve cover so I am not feeling the need to replace it with an aluminum unit but I have a question about the fit of a particular part.

Has anyone ever replaced their plastic cover with this... http://www.thejeephut.com/plastic-valve-cover-1983-1993-jeep-cj-wrangler-by-omix-ada/ ?

If so, what gasket would be recommended and would the original bolts need to be replaced with shoulder bolts?

Thanks for any help!

China... this thing says Taiwan so no worries! /s

I'm not excited to move away from the stock setup for the CCV/PCV but if quality of the aftermarket parts is the main driver at least now I understand why it is such a common recommended fix.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in reading many of the NUMEROUS valve cover swap threads I believe I read that the '86 2.5L has a unique metered CCV grommet (???). If this is true, how is that compensated for in the VC swap?

Study my pic and do exactly the same.

Nothing really to compensate for.

The 'metered' fitting is the one the vacuum hose is attached to, just make sure yours comes with it.
