Jeep Driver
I'm putting together my mental wish list for a new engine. This is the Banks with MPI intake. What I'm wondering is if the Banks is compatible with the TBI intake. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
Jeep Driver
Next question- Making an adapter plate for the TBI on the MPI intake is simple enough. Is there a way to plug the injector holes?
mnkyboy
I have a Pacesetter header off a TBI 2.5l on my engine that I converted to MPI, it fit fine with the MPI intake.
mnkyboy
Personally I wouldnt bother adapting the TBI unit, its a major flow restriction thats going to hurt performance no matter how good the rest of the engine works. Here is a 2.5l TBI unit next to a much larger 2.5l MPI TB next to an even larger stock 4.0l TB. Most people put on the 4.0l TB as an upgrade from the 2.5l MPI TB. Jeep Driver
I appreciate that and I do understand, however, I'm not prepared to make a full swap to MPI. I'm dealing with a DD here, engine will be built and ready for a one day swap. And FWIW....I'm looking to bottom end torque here, my engine rarely sees 3000rpm. Jeep Driver
Oh, and on the plugs..... Apparently it's a common thing to do for guys going carbed. I'm reading several thread on other sites and the funny thing is most guys are afraid to plug them thinking that whatever they use will get sucked into the engine :P Threading them for 3/8 plugs seems to be the way to go. mnkyboy
I think I would look for the correct size soft plug and put them in. I would think that the header would work fine with the TBI manifold though. Mine has been on both TBI and MPI engines with no problems.

I just emailed Banks to see why they do not list for TBI, I suppose it is because it does not support the EGR.
mnkyboy
I just went out and looked at my Pacesetter and it doesnt have the provisions for the EGR, my buddy had it on his TBI 2.5l so he must have blocked off his EGR.
FrankTheDog
Put an old set of injectors in. They're designed to fit the hole. It may be a little butch but it'll work.

Was your Pacesetter for the Wrangler? and if so does it fit the Comanche with the Wrangler down tube that come with it?
mnkyboy
Yes, it came off a YJ. my exhaust system isn't finished and its going to be all custom anyway but the downpipe seems to be pretty close to how the old stuff ran. I couldnt tell you if it would tie directly into the stock system but it seems like it would be close.
outlaw star
It costs 350-400 bucks but the Borla 2.5L Wrangler TBI header bolts up to our Mjs. Just ordered one on sale for 320. PN 17061. Google Borla Jeep 2.5L Header

I figured some fabrication/modifications to the downpipe would be needed as the Wranglers bellhousing and crossmember are a little different. As for bolt on I was mainly referring to the EGR n Heater pipe hook ups.
conker
So did you ever find out if it works? Unless I'm just this bad at reading.
