I think you be better off finding a used parts washer or getting a cheaper harbor freight version.  That way you're not running an extra hot water line in the garage for a dishwasher, also I doubt a regular dishwasher will get hot enough to deal well with the build up of grime on auto parts.  Also it won't be able to reach into small hard to get to areas on parts.  Since the water is sprayed from the bottom, you'd get a clean bottom of the part, then the top will still have "cleaned" grime on it.  Not that bad in theory, I just don't think it'll work all that well.

Although, if you could plumb the dishwasher to pull from a tank of hot solvent it could work pretty decently, just bottom rack everything :P just make sure everything is non-flammable.
