2.1 Diesel Turbo Question

I have play in my turbo on my 86 factory turbo diesel... My question is what kind of turbo is it and has anyone swapped a different one on it??

There should be a identification tag or stamping on the turbo itself.  That tag will be what you want (assuming it is still the stock turbo).  Also the 85/86 factory service manual/diesel supplement "should" have the information.  If you are going to be looking for a turbo upgrade, you may want to look on some other forums where more renaults were sold, like in europe.

Like a lot of play I've owned a diesel before this and built my turbo and there was not nearly as much play as this.... I'm just wondering if I could slap a t3t4 on her

All of the above I can almost touch the fin to the turbo housing

Sounds like the turbo is at the very least, in need of a total rebuild.  More likely you need to replace it with a new turbo.  One thing you do not want is to rebuild the complete engine because the turbo fails and shrapnel is ingested into the engine.

That's why I'm asking does anyone know what kind of turbo it is cause I have no clue.... I'm thinking about just putting a t3t4 on it instead

Most likely part number 7700727641 and its called a "tbo216". Wouldnt a t3t4 be too big?? Remember when in doubt about these engines, Google j8s, thats the manufacturers (Renault)  designation for them.

A turbo is a turbo I can make it boost 10 pounds if need be with a external waste gate but thank you for the info
