rocklaser
Has anyone ever removed the printed circuit board on the back of the gauge cluster to a new casing?
Dillithium
Hi, welcome. I looked at doing that when I swapped from idiot lights to a full cluster, because the old print was in a lot better shape than the new print. Is this what you're talking about? In between identical clusters I can't see it being a problem, I didn't end up doing it because the two clusters had different copper paths. rocklaser
I have a full cluster with a cracked casing and a 3/4 cluster no Tach with a good casing. Obivously the prints are different but quickly looking at the prints it looks like they should come off pretty easily. don't want to risk destroying two clusters if someone has knowledge about not doing this. ftpiercecracker1
Yes you can swap them to your hearts content. Its a simple matter of removing all the bulbs and screws, just make sure you remember where they all went. FYI, Renix and HO PCBs (printed circuit boards) are NOT compatible. The next time you are in a JY and find a Renix jeep with full gauges, pull the PCB as they are getting harder and harder to find and the JY is the only place where they can be found. HOrnbrod
Has anyone ever removed the printed circuit board on the back of the gauge cluster to a new casing? Many times. Just make sure the stamped part numbers are the same or compatible.
rocklaser
Thanks. I have a 87 sport truck with 4.0 with 5 Speed. The clusters I have are from an 88 so should be compatible.
ftpiercecracker1
Yes, but do they have the same gauges? If you have full gauge set and put the PCB from a cluster with idiot lights it won't work, the copper traces won't be present. It might the other way around, but i don't know for sure. lil_loco
Just line up the copper "lines" to make sure they go to the right/desired gauges. I did a swap on mine so that i could add an idiot light that wasn't there before (previous sheet was defective) on one of my auto converted trucks. Renix to renix and you are good to go.
