mjbret13
It's that time again to get the good old comanche smog tested. I've replaced my catalytic converter finally so it will pass smog emissions wise. Visual inspection I will not pass due to a diy cone filter kit that came with the jeep. I'm having a problem finding a carb approved aftermarket intake for it. Even harder is finding a factory air box to replace cone filter it has. I don't have a Cherokee to borrow the air box out of to smog it this time. Any good places to look? 88ComancheMitch
Id just go get a stock system from the junkyard. Then swap back after inspection. I love how KY doesn't have inspections anymore
johnj92131
Pick and Pull or Ecology salvage yards have tons of them. You might want to get a new gas cap also. I have failed twice because of a bad gasket on the gas cap. New cap is a $10 fix. And just keep the stock air filter box after you pass. Those cone filters are junk and marketing hype. mjbret13
The renix models are rare in junk yards around here. I'd rather much prefer a stock air box with a fram filter over the stupid k&n cone filter it has now. Should I be fine with a box out of a high output. Pretty much the same minus heat riser. Which I had blocked off on the box out of the old Cherokee and I passed smog with that. Looks like it functions but it never did.
MJam86
I'm just up the road an hour or so in Tracy, if you need help let me know you can borrow my box if need be or I may know a guy that has one for sell.
ParadiseMJ
I also have a stock box available. If you just want to use it to pass. I have a CARB approved intake I got years ago and had to show the smog guy the numbers to pass. The one I got is not available anymore. If you do not have the "thermostatic air filter" hose off the manifold, and the smog guy is a stickler, you'll fail on that too. The hose is about $3.00, but if you've modified the manifold at all they'll nick you. Any hoo, if you want a stock box, I'll give you one of mine and send you the vac line set-up instructions...you pay shipping. It's even got a new filter in it. PM me if interested.
