Jacob Ochs
I need to remove the bump stops on my 86 MJ I've heard that some wiggle out and some unscrew...? I don't know if either are true. Here's a picture of mine! Can someone tell me how to get these off? Thanks
JeepcoMJ
Unscrew. And the springs need to be unloaded at the minimum to do it, but if you don't want them scratched up you need to remove them.

ftpiercecracker1
You are gonna need a spring compressor to pull out the coils, you can rent one from most auto parts stores. They are a b*tch to use, but its the only thing i can thing of that can do it. As for what to use to remove the bump stops, I used a big ole pipe wrench to loosen mine. Not mine, but it should give you a good idea of where to put the pipe wrench. FPC

ParadiseMJ
If you can't fit a pipe wrench in there, a large channel lock will do it too.

AMCJeepMJ
I use a big pipe wrench when I have to take mine off for changing springs or coil spacers. Haven't had to do it in a few years, fortunately.
HOrnbrod
I recently replaced my bump stops as they were dry rotted and falling apart. It's easy-peasy if you jack up one side at a time and let everything hang. Off/ On with big channel locks. Use a crow bar between a pair of coils to open them up a bit and slide the old bump stops out and the new ones in.
ParadiseMJ
That's a good tip, (the crow bar) it'd save a lot of work taking the spring out.
