Rear Cross Member Replacement

Hey,

 

Has anyone cut out and replaced the frame x-member that is under the box? Took the box off and the x-member is done. Just looking for tube ideas

If it's just a regular crossmember, I'd just gey some HREW square tube, stitch some mounting plates to it, and slap it on. Should work out ok.

The rear "frame" is made out of layered stamped sheet metal, a la unibody, so welding structural components to it is generally a bad idea. Square tubing should be fine for the x-member, but do your best to attach it the same way as the factory.

I'll bet he did nothing to stabilize the frame rails before he went whacking out the cross member.

 

How are you going to straighten out the frame now?

Good point, although in this "looking for ideas" post, he hasn't mentioned whacking anything out yet...

Yeah... forgot to mention. ALWAYS drill and bolt onto unit bodies. NEVER weld. Hell, I hardly ever weld to "normal" frames.
