benjy_26
So.... the left front parking lamo hasnt worked on my MJ since I bought it. While cleaning up my wiring, I decided to tackle this issue once and for all. Two replacement bulbs didn't help, so I measured the voltage across thr connector. According to my trusty, crusty Fluke multimeter, I was getting around 11 volts to both the turn signal circuit and the parking lamp circuit. Ok, time for a replacement plug. Went to the JY, got a few plugs (no body in town has the old school sockets anymore), came home, cut out thr old, test-wired in the new....and nothing. No parking lamp, plus, now thr blinker doesnt work (did before) as well as the blinker dying on the passenger side! checked fuses, all is well there, rear blinkers and tail lights kick off, so I assune the multifunction switch and flasher are OK. Cleaned and checked the 6 conductor plug behind thr driver side headlight and still no joy. At this point, I'm thinking I should just trace wirr back towards the firewall until I get voltage, bypass the goofy connector, and run nee wire to my lights. Any thoughts, comments, ir suggestions? All are greatly appreciated. :)
jimoshel
With a Jeep, the first thing you always want to check is the grounds. Next check all connectors in the circuit. Then check the wiring, looking for frayed insulation and or a break. If that doesn't get it, run a new wire.Often times I have just run another wire from the neg bat post direct to the load. Maybe overkill but it works.
onlyinajeep726
Check the head light harness plugs. It's found on the driverside either just next to the airbox or behind the bumper. Anyway, those are notorious for become so badly corroded that it won't transfer the proper amount of current to drive the incandescent bulbs. benjy_26
Yup. That's the connector I pried apart and cleaned. I was thinking of bypassing it completely. Any adverse effects if I do? Looks like it was installed to speed up header panel assembly/disassembly to me.

You can but i wouldnt, because like you said it makes disassembly/reassembly 10x easier and there will come a time where you will need to do this. If you want you can actually buy an entirely new weather pack plug to replace the original, but that requires cutting the old plug out entirely. http://pcsconnectors.com/12015799.aspx
benjy_26
NICE! I may just buy another one. :) As far as disassmbly, I already upgraded to a new harness and relays for my headlights. That connector is only really servicing my side markers and turn sigals.
benjy_26
So.... I decided to swap out my parking lamp sockets (zj tail light sockets are a perfect fit, btw) and I got my driver side parking lamp AND turn signal to work!!!! Unfortunately, now I get a steady parking lamp in the pass. side and no turn signal there. Any suggestions? BTW, I followed your advice, and I dropped a ground from the battery into the circuit and I scrubbed and greased the 6 pin connector.
