Megadan
My 2 cents as an OTR driver (aka Big rigs) is that people are simply selfish and rude, or distracted. If it is a matter of them not seeing you, which in some colors could be a part of it I agree, then explain the people that cut off and brake check 8+ft wide, 13+ft tall, 70ft long tractor-trailers. No, it comes down to people thinking "well, I don't care if you are there, I am coming over and you are going to move for me." There are plenty of overly aggressive bullies out there behind the wheel. It also comes down to people not thinking at all, or at least of the task at hand (ie, the distracted driving people have mentioned). I can also say this from my 700,000 logged miles of experience that it really depends on the region you are driving in as to how people act on the road. Some areas are more polite on the highway than others.

Some areas are more polite on the highway than others. I have personally never understood this. Its a David vs. Goliath mentality that gets people killed. When I am in my candy white GTI people do not generally pull out in front of me. As a matter of fact, I cannot really think of one instance where it has happened and I slammed on the brakes. Tailgating is another thing entirely. When I was driving my 88 orange MJ I found that people generally stayed away from me. I don't know if its because of what you all have said. Its old, it looks unsafe, keep your distance, or what. I have yet to drive my 90 on the street but I am hoping for more of the same. People keeping their distance because I am an overly cautious driver. I keep my distance all the time counting to 3-4 seconds so I have adequate time to stop, signaling constantly when I make a move, and looking both ways, twice. In Florida if I am driving with other people I have found that it seems to be a matter of whats mentioned above. Basically "I am moving over into your lane and too bad." Its a damn shame that is how it is and drivers in Florida have scared me to the point of having a dash cam running every trip out in the car. Scary, scary stuff on these roads. benjy_26
I think it has to do with the Manche looking like the proverbial "old man's" truck. I get pulled in front of, cut off, and people constantly riding my rear bumper even when I'm doing 5-10mph OVER the limit on the slow lane. None of this happens in my other vehicles. JeepcoMJ
Maybe people think that if it looks nice, you care enough to yield to them. Just had someone pull that on my 02 kj today with 6'8" Meyer plow on the front. Pulled out right in front of me, but didn't make it to the street. I cleared their driver mirror, fender, bumper cover, and driver headlight right off their vehicle. On their phone, and I had an old dump truck to my left. If I had braked, I would have rear ended them and it would be my fault. Couldn't merge left, so I stayed the course and angled the plow full left. Plow took all impact and blew a hose. Minor scratch, everything is fine, and putting it full left certainly helped alleviate the impact. Done fluid on the ground but no airbags and no scratch on my jeep. Damn focus driver. Their fault 100% according to police. That was a case of inattentive driver.

Megadan
I keep my distance all the time counting to 3-4 seconds so I have adequate time to stop, signaling constantly when I make a move, and looking both ways, twice. I do the same things, mostly out of habit from driving commercial vehicles. In fact, I tend to find myself leaving following distances more appropriate for a semi than a car when I kind of get into a groove going down the highway. Tailgaters I am not too concerned with. Again, it comes down to what I learned from driving a big rig. I tend to exaggerate everything with a tailgater so they know what is going on. I signal earlier, brake sooner and more slowly, and if I see a chance where they can pass me I slow down to make them go by me (without using the brakes). P.S. I have experienced Florida drivers for myself quite often. I know exactly what you are talking about lol

RochesterMJ
benjy_26 - I think you nailed it. I do notice that when I pull into traffic, guys in Mustangs, Challengers or Full size trucks will get uppity and speed up, seemingly to teach me a lesson and show me how slow and dumb I am, but they never get within 5 car lengths. The MJ aint no lame dog
