frankMart
Hi! Can somebody run a VIN for me? I bought the rear half of this truck and need all the info I can get about it.... The VIN is: 1J7FT26EXKL607411. Is a 89 Base Comanche. Thank you!
87MJTIM
The 3rd and 4th digits don't match the '89 VIN sequence. Based on the VIN you listed, you have a 1990 base model, 2wd, with a 2.5 4 cyl. It must have been an early production unit. The 10th digit, "K", is a 1989 production year. The 6th position, "2," is the base model. A "3" would indicate Pioneer. Source: www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com
frankMart
Thanks! The title says it is a 89, and the guy told me it was a 4 cyl 5 speed, but the axle ratio is 3.55. He doesn't have the drivetrain anymore. Is there a way I can know which gearbox came with it? Maybe I copied wrong those digits, here is the picture of the VIN:
JeepcoMJ
The motor isn't a guarantee of good ratio.
dasbulliwagen
Chrysler shows build date as May 17, 1989. Originally sold at Lancaster Jeep, Lancaster, California Options list doesnt show engine or trans spec. Shows engine code EPD and trans code DCK. It does show 3 .55 axle ratio though. its also Calif. Emissions, might be the reason for 3 .55 axle ratio and 5 speed if thats what it had.
frankMart
What do yo mean the motor isn't a guarantee? I bought it because for what he told me: 4 cyl 5 speed. And I thought 4 cyl + 5 speed = 4.11 ratio. Mine has a "Dakota" axle in the rear, and is 3.55.

JeepcoMJ
engine specs are guidelines for gear ratio not a guarantee this is AMC were talking about. you got hosed if you thought you're getting 4.11s. And it's a Dana 35 so worthless anyways. The Dakota rear is stronger. Go buy new gears, the search for years 4.11is never ending. Only once have I had a factory 4.11 d44...& I have owned 29 mjs
87Warrior
Why not open the differential and do math, (ring/pinion), to determine the gear ratio?
JeepcoMJ
Why bother at this point. We know whats in it. You should do that before you purchase something, not simply assume that a guideline is unarguable fact.
